What: Adam and Eve had two sons. Cain and Abel made offerings for the Lord. God did not respect / accept Cain’s offering. Cain became angry & killed Abel. Cain receives consequences from God for his sin. Lamech, Cain’s family line, murders too.

Summary – Sin is affecting the lives of the first family.

Lessons to Guide Your Life:

Example – Sin affects your life and the lives of those around you.

Truth – Sin demands consequences

Lesson – Jealously (like Cain) breeds sin

Why – To reveal sin from the beginning. To reveal the affects of sin.

Direction For Your Life:

Pray – Lord help me not to sin for it effects those around me.

Encouraging Thought:  God is merciful. He still blesses in the midst of sin.

Conclusion: Don’t allow jealousy in your heart. Anger by way of jealously can lead to murder / division of family.

Wanting / desiring what someone else has is jealousy / discontent. I need to be content where the Lord has me and rejoice with others.

Questions/Thoughts to Ponder:

What am I jealous of?

Other marriages, other connected families.

How can I turn the negative feeling into good?

Focus on the Lord.

Beginning of the nation of Israel (Genesis)

Posted on

At this point men are without hope.  Mankind is in need of a Savior.  God chose one man named Abraham.  Abraham was to follow God and allow God to work through his life.  God made 3 promises to Abraham.  1.  A group of people from his family and they would become a nation.

2.They would be give special land.  3.  His family/nation would be a blessing to the whole entire world (The Savior would come from this family.)  Abraham had a son named Issac.  God repeated these promises to Issac.  Issac had a son name Jacob.  God repeated these promises to Jacob.  Jacob had 12 sons.  This is the foundation of God’s special nation.  Joseph was Jacob’s favorite son.  Joseph’s brother sold him into slavery.  Joseph ended up living in Egypt where he became one of the most powerful men on the earth.  Joseph led his family to Egypt to provide food for them during a famine.  Judah, one of Jacob’s other sons, was promised that a great king would come from his family.  Jacob’s name was changed to Israel.  Jacob’s family were Hebrews/Israelites.

After the Flood/Beginning of Different Nations (Genesis)

After the flood God told Noah and his family to multiply and spread out all over the earth.  Instead of spreading out, the people joined together.  The flood did not take away sin from the world.  Men still had a broken relationship with God.  The people continued to disobey God.  The people had sin and language in common.  The people decided to build a tower because they wanted to be important apart from God.  The people refused to obey God, so He scattered them over the face of the earth by confusing their language.  The people scattered to different parts of the world, therefore forming different nations.  God wanted a group of people for Himself.

Noah (Genesis)

Man became unlike God is his behavior.  Only one good man named Noah.  To remove the wickedness from the earth God sent a huge, worldwide 40 day flood.  The flood destroyed everything.  God preserved Noah, his family, and animals.  God promised that he would never destroy the world again with a flood.  God gave us the rainbow as a sign of His promise.

Sin (Genesis)

Posted on

Sin enters the world through Adam’s and Eve’s willful disobedience—man’s sin separates him from a holy God.  Satan was the intruder in the form of a snake.  Adam and Eve disobeyed God at Satan’s suggestion.  This is when men began to give God offerings/sacrifices, which was a way of showing they were sorry for their sins and asking for forgiveness.  Men are separated from God (our creator) because of sin.  God makes His promise of sending a Savior to take care of the sin problem.

Prayers to God

Your Provider

Father,

I will bless you Lord at all times; Your praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul will make its boast in you Lord; the humble will hear it and rejoice. O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt His name together. I sing to you Lord with thanksgiving.  I sing praises to my God who covers the heavens with clouds, provides rain for the earth, and makes grass to grow on the mountains. You give to the beast its food and to the young ravens which cry.

As Abraham journeyed, he called the name of a place, ‘The Lord Will Provide’.  It is said to this day, “In the mount of the Lord, it will be provided.” As the sons of Israel complained in the wilderness of the lack of food, You provided food for them by raining down bread from heaven.  You are the same God who provided for Israel and I am confident You will provide for me.

Thank you Lord for providing a way for me to avoid yielding to temptation.  The Bible says, “No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.”  Thank you for providing the way of escape so that I will be able to endure times of temptation without giving in to it.  Thank you Lord!  AMEN!

Creation (Genesis)

Creation (Genesis)

Before anything was created, God existed.  God’s first act was His perfect creation.  He created all else that exists.  In just 6 days God created everything.  Adam and Eve lived in the garden of Eden.  Life was absolutely perfect.  Man was made to live in submission to God (close relationship with God).  Man was created in the image of God.

Your Counselor

Prayers to God

Father,

Your testimonies are my delight; They are my counselors.  I can search the Word for direction for my life.  Thank you for revealing Your will for our lives in Your Holy Word.  Of Jesus, the Bible says, “For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us, the government will rest on His shoulders, and His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.

Thank you for being my counselor.   Without a doubt when I call upon You, you will answer.  In times of trouble, You are there to make my way straight.  I do not have to fear because I know you will lead and guide me into the right direction.  Thank you Lord!  AMEN!

He IS The Stronghold

Your Stronghold

Prayers to God

Father,

Please incline Your ear to me, rescue me quickly. Be to me a rock of strength, a stronghold to save me.You are a stronghold for the oppressed and a stronghold in times of trouble.  Lord, You are my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer.  You are My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge.  Lord God, you are my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

Lord of hosts, You are with me. The God of Jacob is my stronghold. Because of Your strength I will watch for You, for You are my stronghold.  As for me, I shall sing of Your strength. Yes, I shall joyfully sing of Your lovingkindness in the morning.  For You have been my stronghold and a refuge in the day of my distress. O my strength, I will sing praises to You.  For Lord, You are my stronghold, the God who shows me lovingkindness. You only are my rock and my salvation, my stronghold. I shall not be greatly shaken. You only are my rock and my salvation, my stronghold; I shall not be shaken.

Lord, You have been my stronghold, and my God; the rock of my refuge. Father, You are my lovingkindness and my fortress, my stronghold and my deliverer, my shield and the One in whom I take refuge. I believe Your word when it says, “The way of the Lord is a stronghold to the upright, but ruin to the workers of iniquity.”

O Lord, my strength and my stronghold, and my refuge in the day of distress.  Lord, You are good, a stronghold in the day of trouble and You know those who take refuge in You.

Father, I thank You for being my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge.  I praise You for being my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold and my refuge.  You are my savior; You save me from violence. I call upon You Lord, who is worthy to be praised, and I am saved from my enemies.  Thank you Lord!  AMEN!
